What is the procedure for posting bail?

To post bail, please bring bail money to the Brown County Jail:

What are the hours of operation for the Brown County Jail?

Brown County Jail is operated 24 hours a day. Routine business hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

 

Is there a telephone number I can call to find out if someone is in jail?

How many visits can an arrestee have and what are visiting hours?

The Brown County Jail's visitng hours are Wednesday and Sunday from 1:00pm to 4:00 pm. Arrestees can have two visitors per time period.

Can children under 10 years of age be held accountable in a court of law?

No, children under 10 years of age cannot be held legally accountable for their actions and will not face court action. Cases will be forwarded to the juvenile officer.

Northern State University (NSU) Campus Officer

 

Is it safe to walk on campus at night?

Yes, provided you take these simple steps to enhance your safety:

  • Be alert to suspicious people or circumstances. If something or someone doesn’t seem right to you, go to a well-lit, populated area and notify the police.
  • Travel in well-lit, well-traveled areas and try not to walk alone.
  • Familiarize yourself with the locations of the courtesy phones around campus. If you ever have a problem, dial 9-1-1.
  • Remember that most crimes on campus occur from around 1:00 am to 3:00 am and involve alcohol.

 
Who should I contact if I lock my keys in my NSU office?

First, try to contact NSU Facilities Management at (605) 626-7779. If no one is available, try contacting the NSU Heating Plant at (605) 626-2672. If no one is available at either Facilities Management or the Heating Plant, call the NSU officer at (605) 380-8925 or (605) 626-2474.

 
Where is the office of the NSU officer located?

The NSU officer's office is in the Residence Life Office on the second floor of the Student Center.
